Payment Atlas

Every payment has a price.

Find yours. Compare providers against your sales, basket size and payment mix.

Your payment landscape

Each row models 100% of the same sales through that method. Availability, customer adoption and settlement speed differ; a low fee alone does not make methods interchangeable.
Direct Debit or pay by bank?

Direct Debit: the customer authorises a mandate; future collections can happen without approving each payment. Collection takes working days, so it is usually a better fit for subscriptions, bills and ongoing relationships than an immediate retail checkout.

Pay by bank / open banking: the customer selects their bank and approves the payment in its app or online banking. It can suit one-off checkout, but switching apps can add friction. Authorisation, confirmation and merchant payout timing are different events.

A recurring forecast does not automatically switch payments to Direct Debit or enable recurring collection on any provider. Confirm recurring or variable recurring payment support for your chosen product. These rankings compare fees, not checkout conversion. Test customer adoption and completed purchases before moving traffic. Direct Debit timing and flow · Atoa checkout flow

Used in Liberador

Monero through PrivCart

The Liberador checkout code integrates PrivCart for XMR payments and offers a 5% customer discount, converting the local-currency total using a live Kraken rate.

PrivCart advertises a flat 1% fee, deducted when withdrawing. Funds remain crypto: XMR payments are received and withdrawn in XMR. A fiat off-ramp, exchange spread and any network charges need their own budget.

The discount matters

For a 100-unit sale with Liberador's 5% discount:

95.00 collected− 0.95 illustrative withdrawal fee94.05 before other costs

5.95 units below full price. The customer discount is a commercial cost, not a processor fee. Assumes the full balance is withdrawn at the advertised rate.

Bitcoin & Lightning

BTCPay Server is open-source and self-hosted, with no software processing fee. Budget for hosting, operations, network or Lightning liquidity costs, and any conversion to fiat. A zero software fee does not mean zero total cost.

Stablecoins

PrivCart also lists USDC and USDT on Ethereum. Model the specific token and network: processor fees, gas, custody, redemption and fiat off-ramp costs. Stablecoins reduce some price volatility but retain issuer and depeg risk.

Supported assets ↗

Apple Pay & Google Pay

These wallets commonly carry an underlying card. Start with the processor's applicable card rate rather than treating the wallet as a separate cheap payment rail. Mollie explicitly prices Apple Pay by the card used.

Revolut Pay & pay by bank

Revolut Pay offers payment from a Revolut account. Revolut also offers a full card gateway and a separate open-banking product. Compare each route and its own rate; the Revolut Pay button is not a generic bank-transfer price.

Buy now, pay later

Klarna and similar methods can change both fees and conversion. Use a quoted rate in a custom provider row, then compare net margin after payment costs, returns and any increase in sales.

Local bank methods

Direct Debit, open banking, SEPA and local transfer schemes serve different use cases. Check collection timing, recurring support and refund or failure rules. Merchant country and payer country both matter.

Coverage

UK-first release. UK presets: Stripe cards and Bacs, Revolut cards, Revolut Pay and open banking, Mollie cards and Bacs, GoCardless Standard, and Atoa Pay by Bank at its advertised starting rate. Atoa cards require your card-specific quote. Mangopay, Adyen, Checkout.com and TrueLayer start as quote-only rows. The country dropdown currently offers the United Kingdom only.

Calculation

Estimated transactions = monthly sales ÷ average basket. Each transaction is assumed to have that basket size. The recurring percentage splits both sales and payment count using the same basket. Optional provider recurring billing add-ons apply only to that share, after the base per-payment fee and cap. They default to zero; the split alone does not change processing fees or route payments to a different method. For cards, percentage rates are weighted by the card mix. For bank methods, a per-payment minimum, cap and high-value surcharge are applied before multiplying by transaction count. Real basket distributions can change capped fees.

Month one fees = processing + monthly provider charge + shared monthly extras + FX + expected dispute fees + optional irrecoverable VAT. The annual forecast sums 12 months of compounded sales growth; fixed charges and billing minimums stay monthly. Fractional transaction counts are retained for planning.

Fees are not subtracted when forecasting the next month's sales. All forecasts are in the selected local currency, with no FX aggregation across countries. Monthly fees in provider editors default to zero: add your required account plan, gateway fees, billing, marketplace, refund and payout charges. The separate extras field applies to every comparison row.

Rate interpretation

UK card presets assume Visa and Mastercard. The premium/commercial bucket maps to Stripe premium UK pricing and Revolut/Mollie commercial pricing; providers classify cards differently. Amex, refunds, scheme-specific charges and bespoke interchange++ contracts need separate quotes. A card mix is not a guarantee of the final classification.

GoCardless Standard domestic pricing is capped at £4 per payment with a 0.3% surcharge on the portion above £2,000. It excludes VAT unless selected. Its international rate is a separate quote row you can add. Bank rows model domestic collections, independent of the card-origin mix. Revolut open banking caps its percentage component at £5, then adds 20p. Atoa Pay by Bank uses the advertised starting 0.7% rate with no fixed transaction fee, before VAT; confirm your contract. Its help centre describes a 30p monthly billing minimum, modelled as a floor on processing fees. Paid plans, custom caps and integration extras need your quote. Atoa billing minimum.

Provider assumptions

Enter a quoted rate. Blank fields prevent calculation. Zero means explicitly free.

Non-card methods use the domestic rate. Blank card buckets use the domestic rate. A blank FX or dispute fee blocks estimates when that assumption is non-zero.
